Many times it is not really something big or significant to the moment but when you look back on it a couple of months or maybe a couple of years later you realize that it changed your life in a big way.
Waking up that morning I didn’t know what was ahead for me, nor did I know that what happened that day would change my life forever. It was Thursday morning and like any other freshman in high school I was just trying to find my way to my next class. The halls were long and full of doors that had really no sort of label on them and with everyone running down the halls I was having a hard time just making it down the crowded hallway. I was starting to get to know my way but I still wasn’t quite sure sometimes whether it was the right room or not until I walked inside. The school day went on and I just followed along with my friends as we all tried to pretend that we knew where we were going. That day as I got in my car to drive home I felt like something was about it happen, I wasn’t quite sure what it was but I knew that it was something important.
I drove up my lane and into the white garage that sat right next to my big house that I had lived in all of my life, as I walked through the door I saw my mother sitting at the table. I knew that this meant that she needed to talk. What she told me changed my life, and is why I am here today. She said that my new step-dad had taken a job in Mapleton, Iowa, which was about 115 miles away and that I needed to start to pack because we were moving in a couple of weeks.
I remember thinking how unfair it was moving me to a new school when I didn’t even know my way around this high school yet, but at least I had friends to follow around here. I told my mom that I wouldn’t move, that I wanted to stay with my dad and go to school here, but she wouldn’t listen to me and packed my things for me.
As I walked into my new school for the first time I knew something about this place was different, and I knew that the people there were different also. It didn’t take long for me to find my way around there because everyone was very helpful. It didn’t seem to matter to them that I was only a freshman and a new student they seemed to like me anyway.
When I moved to Mapleton I had no intentions of staying there but I met my best friend Sara and my boyfriend Frank and without them I wouldn’t be here. Moving to Mapleton and going to a new high school brought about many important changes in my life and it made me who I am today. So as the saying goes it is true, one important event can change the course of your life.

Hello, welcome to the Blog of Melissa.
